Aquatic Vegetation Control Laborer:

Position Summary

Provide support and labor for the operations department.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing and loading equipment.
  • Treat invasive plants with herbicide as directed by and under licensed Crew Supervisor and/or Applicator and use machete, spray bottles, and/or back pack sprayer.
  • Operate spray apparatus, including electric pump, gas powered pumps, and hand pumps
  • Identify target and non-target plant species.
  • Conduct support duties such as errands, routine maintenance, or other duties as directed by Supervisor
  • Communicate daily with Supervisor
  • Attend all appointments, meetings, and training sessions as directed by manager, client, and/or the HR
  • Understand and adhere to all herbicide labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Understand and adhere to all of  Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Safety Plans and Programs
  • Maintain appearance and attitude in such a way as to positively portray the company internally and externally

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to seasonal weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, standing water, dry, and humid conditions. Site conditions often include dense vegetation, poisonous vegetation, uneven terrain, swampy terrain. Sites are often occupied by native and non­ native wildlife including but limited to alligators, crocodiles, snakes, spiders, bees, and stinging and biting insects. The noise levels in the work environment are frequently extreme.

Eligible candidates must be able to pass a Federal criminal background check and drug screening.

Comply with company safety policies and procedures at all times; use of PPE Gear is required.

MAINTENANCE WORKER I

NATURE OF WORK

This is unskilled, and limited semiskilled` manual labor in construction, maintenance and service activities.

An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for the satisfactory performance of light and heavy manual laboring tasks which do not require a high degree of manipulative skill or previous experience in order to do an effective job. Assignments often include the use of standard hand tools and the occasional operation of light power driven equipment. An employee in this class may be temporarily assigned duties in another division/section during slack periods in the employee’s original area of assignment. Work is sometimes performed under close supervision, although work assignments which are repetitive in nature, once learned, can be carried on without difficulty under only general supervision.
EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Trims foliage; clears brush, and cuts grass and weeds with hand tools; occasionally uses light power operated machines. • Plants trees and shrubbery by burying roots and puddling water and soil around roots; performs manual labor in seeding, hoeing, cultivating, and generally maintaining lawns and grounds. • Cleans interior and exterior of buildings; cleans walks, tables, floors, utility installations, tools and equipment; replenishes restroom supplies, empties garbage and trash containers. • Scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors; washes windows, blinds, doors, walls, woodwork, toilets and restroom fixtures. • Performs manual laboring tasks such as breaking pavement and pouring and shoveling asphalt and concrete; mixes concrete with shovel, using prescribed amounts of sand, cement and water. • Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks and vans; moves and relocates bleachers and other equipment for special activities; erects and dismantles portable seating, portable basketball floors and overhead rigging. • Rakes and cleans all trash throughout parks and places it for pickup. • During slack periods an employee may be required to pick up debris and clear areas in and around shop areas, office buildings and parking lots using shovels, pitchforks and other hand tools. • Performs related work as required.

MAINTENANCE WORKER II

NATURE OF WORK

This is semiskilled manual work requiring the application of techniques and knowledge above the basic laboring level in construction, maintenance and service activities.

An employee in a position allocated to this class performs a substantial volume of advanced laboring tasks requiring limited skills or special knowledge acquired through training or work experience. Assignments frequently include the operation of less complex automotive equipment and the use of specialized machines and hand or power tools. An employee in this class may be temporarily assigned duties in another division/section during slack periods in the employee’s original area of assignment. Employees in this class either work under close supervision or where work is routine and repetitive under general supervision in accordance with specific instructions and with defined procedures and schedules. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for adherence to instructions and conformance with established standards.
EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Cleans street gutters and patches holes; picks up trash, debris and loads onto a truck. • Paints and repairs valves and installs water meters and taps; paints and greases fire hydrants. • Performs a variety of laboring duties in the maintenance and construction of baseball fields; lays out infields for the purpose of edging; edges infields with a gas powered edger; fertilizes infields and outfields with a tractor; grades infields with a tractor and a pan or yard rake. • Operates walk behind mowers, weed eaters and edgers to cut grass in medians, along sidewalks, in open fields and around trees and ditches. • Operates a small crane to remove and transplant trees, loads plants and debris into a truck. • Operates pickup trucks, 5 and 12 yard dump trucks, flatbed trucks and patch trucks for maintenance activities. • Pours concrete; fills pavement cracks with asphalt; shovels and rakes asphalt paving mix to repair roads. • Rakes and loads grass, leaves and brush; mows lawns and cleans ground. • During slack periods an employee may be required to pick up debris and clean areas in and around shop areas, office buildings and parking lots using shovels, pitchforks and other hand tools. • Performs related work as required.

MAINTENANCE WORKER III

NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible semiskilled manual work in construction, maintenance or service activities with additional responsibility for reviewing and directing the work of a small crew of unskilled or semiskilled laborers.
An employee in a position allocated to this class participates in and directs a small crew of subordinates in a variety of tasks related to County construction and maintenance work. The Maintenance Worker III class differs from the Public Works Crew Chief job class in that the Maintenance Worker III directs a crew generally assigned to one location while the Public Works Crew Chief has the responsibility of directing more than one crew in several areas. The Public Works Crew Chief obtains the proper equipment, material and staffing for the Maintenance Worker III and his crew and gives the Maintenance Worker III specific instructions on work methods and procedures. Duties assigned are not ordinarily of a specialized nature and no responsibility is involved for making difficult or technical work decisions. Assignments frequently include the operation of less complex automotive equipment and the use of specialized machines and hand or power tools. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by a Public Works Crew Chief or higher lever superior while in progress and upon completion for adherence to instructions and conformance with established standards.


EXAMPLES OF WORK
